This is the ‘Seagate One Touch password’ portable hard drive. In this review, we’ll discuss its features, pros, and cons and find out why this is the special one among the other hard drives and is worth buying. I have been using this Hard drive for quite some time so I will try my best to present you with the finest review of it. This is Mr. ASquare Tech. Let's get started.

What's in the box?:

We are getting some paperwork in the box, explaining how to connect the drive and all. Make sure you save the Secure code and Reset code that comes in the box. It will be used while configuring the hard drive. We also get 4 Months of Adobe creative cloud apps and 1 year of Mylio support-related paperwork. We get a 1-foot USB-A to Micro-B cable along with the Hard drive itself.

Design:

The Seagate One Touch hard drive has a simple and minimal design with a brushed aluminum finish and the Seagate logo on top. It is available in various colors, and I chose the gray one. There is a small light on the drive to indicate the connection status, and the specifications can be found on the back of the hard drive. There is a Micro-B port on the top. It's quite light in weight, weighing 268 grams.

Compatibility:

  • This hard drive is compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems. As we all know, storage can be expensive on Macbooks, so this hard drive is a great option for backing up your photos, videos, and other documents. You can even set it up as a Time Machine for Mac to automatically back up your Macbook at regular intervals.

  • On top of it, this hard drive works with my iPad Pro M1 as well. To connect it, I use a USB hub and it works like a charm. This solves the storage solution for my iPad Pro as well. It’s like one shot, two birds.

Security:

The main and unique feature of this hard drive which makes this special is the One Touch with password feature. After setting up the hard drive, whenever it is connected to the laptop it asks for the password. If you enter the right password only then you will be able to access the files in the drive. Thanks to its password protection and AES-256 hardware encryption. You can rest easy knowing your digital life is secure.

Recovery Support:

This hard disk drive comes with up to three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services. So what does it mean? In the event of unexpected data loss due to mechanical failure, accidental damage, or natural disasters, the expert team will help to copy all the stored files from the damaged device to a new, accessible device, or restore the original device to working condition. This allows you to use the hard drive without worrying about potential issues.

Transfer Speed:

This one-touch hard drive has a capacity of 5 Terabytes out of which the usable space is 4.9TB. This has a transfer speed of 120 Mbps with a Rotational speed of 5400 RPM. However, in real-time the transfer speed is somewhere around 90Mbps to 110Mbps, which is really good.

Backup:

With One Touch HDD, you can schedule automatic hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly backups to keep all your files consolidated into one place.

Additional Bonus:

In addition to all its incredible features, the Seagate One Touch hard drive includes several bonuses when you purchase it. One bonus is a four-month complimentary membership to the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan, valued at approximately $40-$50. And another one is, it also comes with 1 year of Mylio Create support. Mylio Create lets you import up to 25,000 images and sync them between 4 devices.

Cons:

  • The first thing that I didn’t like about it is the data transfer speed on MY Mac. It may not be the case for everyone, because I saw some reviewers getting around 110 to 120 Mbps on their Macs but for some reason, I'm not getting those speeds, I'm getting transfer speeds around 70Mbps to 90Mbps. Probably it's due to the exFAT file system. Personally, I believe that the NTFS file system is more consistent, reliable, and faster. If you are buying this hard drive for Windows, then blindly go for this. Reformat the drive and change the file system to NTFS. You could get a sweet speed of 140 Mbps for sure(use USB 3.0 port).

  • Another thing I didn’t like is the micro B port on it. I wish they had given the USB C port instead of the Micro B port. In the era of USB-type C ports, HDD companies should start putting USB C ports on them and get rid of this ugly port. With USB C ports, It would have been future-proof, since we use the drive for at least a few years.

Is it worth buying?

  • Finally, is it worth your money? Let’s talk. Generally, we buy HDD drives for the purpose of backup and storing files. We don’t or can't use it to install the software or edit videos right from it. So when the buying purpose is backup and storing files, we need to have some sort of data recovery option. I would say it’s a must. This Seagate one touch is coming with the necessary data recovery options even if the hard is damaged the data can be still retrieved by their expert team.

  • This drive also comes with password protection so you don’t have to use any third-party applications to add password protection and your data is pretty secure.

  • It has the option to automatically back up the data at regular intervals. So I would say it's pretty much worth your money.

  • If you own a Macbook or dell xps or any Windows desktop and you are looking for a compact hard drive then this is definitely a must-have accessory.

How to choose the right size for you:

If you are buying any hard drive check what size is suitable for your needs and calculate the price per GB.

For instance, if you are buying a 5TB hard drive for ₹9000/- rupees. Then the cost per GB is around 2 rupees. If you are buying 1 TB hard disk for ₹4000/- rupees the cost per GB is right around 4 to 5 rupees which is bad. Calculate this and buy the right size for you.
